On a cold Zurich morning, Dimple and I headed down to breakfast at Luigia, the Italian restaurant inside our hotel, Radisson Hotel & Suites Zurich in Opfikon. We expected a plain hotel buffet. We got a dining room lit up like a show.

A restaurant that doesn’t look like a hotel breakfast room
Luigia‘s tagline is “The best of Italy”, and it’s written in neon on a green wall of plants inside. The ceiling is covered in strings of little lights, the chairs have bold patterned fabric, and the tables are glossy black with red napkins. Outside, the name LUIGIA glows in big marquee bulbs on the wall. Since it was almost Halloween, there were spooky decorations hanging by the red-curtain entrance.

What’s on the buffet
- Bread and pastries: baskets of croissants and other pastries, plus a tray of sliced cake.
- Hot dishes: a row of covered warmers, including scrambled eggs, next to a meat slicer.
- Cold counter: cold cuts, cheese slices, salad, tomatoes, and buckets of yogurt and fruit.

What we ate
Dimple filled her plate with bacon, cheese, tomatoes and eggs, plus a bowl of yogurt with fruit. I went for eggs and potatoes with a slice of cheese. Breakfast was included in our room rate at the Radisson, which made it an easy start to the day before heading out into the cold. My favourite? The cheese. Dimple’s favourites were the tomatoes, cream cheese, mozzarella and yogurt.

Our verdict
It was good, and the food was good. Luigia is a cozy place, and the Halloween decorations made it feel even more fun. Yes, we would go back.
