Mango Tree Cafe Gateway Mall 2 Review: Our Family Dinner, Rated 4.5/5

Green two-photo collage of a family dinner and Thai dishes at Mango Tree Cafe Gateway Mall 2

Our Saturday family dinner on November 7, 2026 brought us to Mango Tree Cafe, “All Day Thai,” at Gateway Mall 2 in Cubao. We ordered four dishes to share: salted egg chicken skin, crab fried rice, chicken in lemongrass and a Thai-style crabmeat omelette. The crab rice and the lemongrass chicken sauce stood out. Our overall rating is 4.5 out of 5.

Here’s a closer look at our order, the menu prices and a few options we’d consider next time. The food comments below are about this dinner; the other dishes are menu ideas, not things we’ve tasted.

Our table at Gateway Mall 2

Our photos show a green upholstered booth beside a wooden table, with pale wall panels and window blinds behind it. The dishes sit in the middle of the table, alongside individual white plates and drinking glasses. It’s a family meal built around sharing, rather than a separate main dish for each person.

Salted Egg Chicken Skin — ₱320

The appetizer is listed as Nang Gai Kai Kem, described on the menu as fried chicken skin with salted egg. Our serving arrived on a rectangular, scalloped-edge plate. The photo shows golden pieces piled together, with a powdery coating and green herb leaves over the top.

This was one of the four dishes we shared. The picture gives a useful look at the presentation, but we haven’t assigned it a separate taste score. The ₱320 is the printed menu price for the dish.

Crab Fried Rice — ₱600 regular / ₱700 large

Khao Pad Pu is the rice dish we’d start with again. The menu lists crab meat, egg, carrots, corn, green peas and onions. Our bowl has a mound of rice topped with overlapping cucumber slices and tomato at the side; yellow corn is also visible.

The crab fried rice tasted good, and it was one of the standouts of dinner. The menu offers regular and large sizes, with a ₱100 difference. We haven’t confirmed which size we ordered, so the two prices are a guide, not a statement about our bill or the photographed portion.

Chicken in Lemongrass — ₱680

The grilled section lists Gai Tha Kra Yang: grilled marinated chicken with lemongrass, served with jim jaew sauce. Our photo shows several browned chicken pieces on a dark round plate, scattered with sliced garnish and green leaves. A small bowl of sauce sits alongside the chicken.

The sauce is tasty. That was the part of this dish that stood out, and it’s why the lemongrass chicken would join the crab rice on our return order. We’re keeping the comment specific to the sauce rather than adding claims about tenderness or spice level that we didn’t record.

Thai-style Crabmeat Omelette — ₱900

Our fourth dish was Kai Jeaw Pu, from the stir-fried/fried section. The menu describes it as deep-fried egg with crabmeat. Its ₱900 price makes it the highest-priced individual dish among our four selections, even compared with the large crab rice.

We don’t have a clear photograph of this dish in the current set, so none of the pictures here is labeled as the omelette. We also haven’t recorded a separate taste comment for it.

Menu highlights and price guide

The photographed menu goes beyond our order, with appetizers, salads, soups, steamed and grilled dishes, stir-fried/fried dishes, Thai pasta, noodles, curries, vegetables, rice and desserts. These are selected printed prices, not a complete menu.

Menu ideas for another visit

We’d begin with crab fried rice and lemongrass chicken again, then consider something different. Tom Kha Chicken lists chicken, coconut cream, lemongrass, kaffir lime, galangal, mushrooms and chillis. The vegan section includes tofu with cashew nuts, mixed vegetables with holy basil, fresh mushroom spring rolls, coconut mushroom soup and fried rice.

For dessert, Mango Sticky Rice is described as fresh ripe mangoes with sweetened sticky rice in coconut sauce. Banana Fritters come with pandan dipping sauce. We didn’t order those desserts, so they’re possibilities for another visit rather than recommendations based on taste.

A few practical notes for families

  • Plan around shared dishes. We ordered four to share. Choose the rice size to suit your own group; the photos don’t establish a serving count.
  • Check the menu symbols. The pages mark nuts, shellfish and spicy dishes, with vegetarian and vegan options on some pages. Ask the restaurant about specific dietary needs.
  • Allow for service charge. Printed prices include VAT but exclude service charge. The menu also says prices and items may change without prior notice.

Our verdict: 4.5/5

The positives from our dinner are straightforward: crab fried rice that tasted good and a tasty jim jaew sauce with the lemongrass chicken. The menu also offers plenty to browse beyond those two dishes, including a dedicated vegan section.

The limitations of this review are just as important: we haven’t scored every dish separately, and menu prices aren’t an all-in bill because service charge is extra. Our 4.5/5 is the overall rating for this family dinner, not a claim about every item on the menu.
